Dan is a film producer, published writer and lifelong student of the story with significant major film studio experience. 

 

Dan is currently the lead Producer and Co-Writer of the faith-based fantasy feature film Heavenquest: A Pilgrim's Progress, which is inspired by the 17th Century John Bunyan classic fable Pilgrim's Progress and which completed principal photography in July of 2017.  Dan developed the project based on a script by Darren Wilson, the writer and director of such well known Christian documentaries as Father of Lights, Furious Love, Finger of God and Holy Ghost.  The film features a star-studded international cast, including South Korean film and television legend In Pyo Cha (Laurel Tree Tailors, Crossing, Mokpo Gangster's paradise, Seoul Searching), beloved Mexican telenovela star Karyme Lozano (Televisa’s Quiero Amarte, For Greater Glory: The True Story of Cristiada), Peta Sergeant from Australia (CW’s The Originals and ABC’s Once Upon a Time in Wonderland), Ricky Kim from South Korea (SBS’ Oh! My Baby), and Fernanda Romero from Mexico (400 Days and The Eye), and including Americans Alan Powell (The Song, lead singer of Christian group Anthem Lights) and introducing Patrick Thompson.

 

Dan is currently Producer of the action crime thriller Snakehead with writer director Evan Jackson Leong of Arowana Films and producer Brian Yang of 408 Films, the director and producer team behind the award-winning documentary film Linsanity featuring Jeremy Lin which premiered at the prestigious Sundance film festival in 2013. Snakehead is a feature film about a woman's rise in the international underworld of human smuggling set in New York Chinatown, and began principal photography in 2017.

 

Dan is also currently Co-Producer of the U.S. / South Korea co-production film Fiction and Other Realities.  The film stars Bobby Choy, whose last feature Ktown Cowboys premiered at the 2015 South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) and was released theatrically by Freestyle Releasing, Korean film and drama star 임화영 Lim Hwa-Young, who was featured in popular Korean dramas Signal (tvN 2016) and Yong-Pal (SBS 2015), and 황현성 Hwang Hyun-Seong, who is best known as the drummer of popular Korean punk band No Brain.  The film is also produced by Sejin Park, producer of the Viki Original Drama Series Dramaworld featuring Justin Chon.  Steve Lee and Bobby Choy co-direct the film, which features the original music of multiple-time South by Southwest (SXSW) Musical Showcase artist Big Phony.

 

Dan was previously the lead Associate Producer, Story Editor and Music Supervisor of the U.S. and Hong Kong co-production film Always from the producers of Supercapitalist (2012).  The film starred Derek Ting, Danni Wang (The Blacklist, Madam Secretary) and Peter Shinkoda (Netflix’s Daredevil, TNT’s Falling SkiesGodzilla) as well as industry veterans Philip Chan (Hard Boiled, Police Story 3: Supercop, Bloodsport, Double Impact) and Ian Buchanan (Panic RoomGeneral HospitalDays of our Lives).  Always completed post-production with Technicolor at the Paramount Studios where Dan supervised post-production sound with Oscar-Winning sound mixer Ben Wilkins (Whiplash).  The film premiered at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival in 2015, and has been acquired for worldwide distribution by Gravitas Ventures.  Watch Always here.

 

In 2013, one of Dan’s original story ideas was selected out of hundreds of submissions to be a finalist in The Coalition for Asian Pacifics in Entertainment’s (CAPE) first ever Feature Film Pitch Lab hosted by well-known producer Dan Lin (The Lego MovieSherlock Holmes) and Warner Bros. 

 

Dan graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English Literature, where he studied the art of creative fiction writing.  After graduation, Dan took further post-graduate courses in creative writing at Stanford, and based on his writing portfolio was accepted to the summer program of The Iowa Writer’s Workshop, the most prestigious creative writing program in the U.S.

 

Prior to producing, Dan was a successful entertainment lawyer.  Dan began his legal career with a well-known large entertainment law firm in Los Angeles where he worked with prominent industry clients such as The Rolling Stones, Hulk Hogan, Josh Groban, Kenny Chesney, the Estate of Rick James, professional MLB pitcher Tim Lincecum and the American Idol television series.  Dan was also a prior winner of the GRAMMY Foundation’s Entertainment Law Initiative writing competition and has been published twice in leading academic legal journals for entertainment law.

 

Most recently, Dan was an in-house attorney at leading motion picture film studio Warner Bros., where he handled intellectual property matters for the studio and worked on the successful tentpole films Pacific Rim (2013) directed by Guillermo del Toro and The Lego Movie (2014).
